BetterALife is a nonprofit organization that provides children and families with food, educational assistance, and life-skill services. Our mission is to feed anyone who says, "I am hungry."
We show youth and families the educational and job-related opportunities they can pursue and inspire hope for a bright future. Every child should know they are loved, cared for, and not forgotten.
We believe that providing food, educational assistance, and life-skill services can help break the cycle of poverty and create a brighter future for individuals and families in need. Our programs provide children and families with the resources to succeed, inspire hope, and empower them to pursue their dreams.
Why BetterALife
A child comes home from school. They last ate at 11 a.m., and it is now 3 p.m. or later. Hungry, they go to the cupboard and find it empty. They then check the fridge—also empty. Defeated, they sit down to work on homework but cannot focus as their stomach aches with hunger. Eventually, they go outside, searching for anyone willing to help distract them or satisfy their hunger. Sadly, too often, the person they meet is someone they should have never encountered.
This is where we come in. We offer a space within walking distance where a child can come to the pantry, find safety, study, and have their basic food needs met—without restrictions or questions.
Thanks to our generous supporters, in FY2024, BetterALife assisted 10,000 Northern Virginia clients, impacting the lives of people in the following ways:
