Voices Of Hope

Voices of Hope is a newly formed choir under the guidance of Matt Berthot from Voice By Matt.

What started out as a volunteer day for the former 20 year teacher and current Voice Coach Matt, turned into much more.  A group of girls formed a choir.

  • Confidence and self-esteem: Learning a song, performing publicly, and hearing applause gives children tangible evidence that they can learn difficult things and succeed.

  • A sense of belonging: A choir gives youth a team where their individual voice matters. Children build friendships and feel part of something positive.

  • Consistent adult mentorship: Regular rehearsals put children around caring adults who notice their progress, encourage them, and model reliability.

  • Emotional expression: Music gives children a constructive way to express feelings that may be difficult to put into words. Research on group singing also suggests benefits for social and emotional well-being.

  • Discipline and responsibility: Children learn to arrive on time, practice, listen, follow directions, memorize material, and work toward a shared goal.

  • Teamwork: A choir teaches an important lesson: you don’t have to be the loudest voice to matter. Everyone contributes to the final result.

  • Access and equity: Private voice lessons, music programs, uniforms, transportation, and performance opportunities can be financially inaccessible. Our free program gives children access regardless of their family’s income.

  • Positive experiences: Performances can take youth into venues and environments they might not otherwise experience and expose them to adults, careers, arts, and possibilities beyond their immediate circumstances.

  • Leadership: As children grow in the program, older or more experienced singers can mentor younger participants, lead sections, speak at performances, and take on responsibilities.

  • A stronger future orientation: Preparing for a performance teaches children that today’s practice contributes to tomorrow’s achievement—a concept that carries into school, careers, and personal goals.

Fun Group Time

Voices of Hope is more than a children’s choir. It is a youth-development program that uses music to build confidence, belonging, discipline, teamwork, and positive relationships with caring adults. For children from low-income households, opportunities such as private music instruction, organized extracurricular activities, and public performances may be financially out of reach. BetterALife removes that barrier by providing these experiences at no cost to participating families. Through rehearsals and performances, children discover that their voices have value, their presence matters, and they are capable of accomplishing something extraordinary alongside their peers.
